Part-time/Hourly, WIC Buddy Program Specialist

LOCATION: Columbus Department of Public Health, WIC, 5601 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904

DESCRIPTION: A WIC Buddy Specialist supports the monitoring of the Buddy Program performance and works with the Breastfeeding Program Coordinator, Nutrition Services Director and/or designee to implement project reinforcement and/or improvement plans. *This position will be housed in Columbus and may be required to travel to surrounding counties as assigned. This is not a remote position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitor and coordinate the local agency activities of the WIC Buddy Program
• Markets and promotes the WIC Buddy Program • Recruits WIC participants to participate in the WIC Buddy Program
• Monitors the clinic’s on-site list and/or daily schedule to recruit eligible participants • Coordinate and schedule paired WIC Buddy connections
• Promotes the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (PC) program and refers participants to the PC program • Completes quarterly Buddy Program reports
• Participates in assigned committees and workgroups, as needed • Participates in Buddy Program meetings and/or calls

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED
• One (1) year experience as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor
• Completion of the WIC Breastfeeding Curriculum Level I and II (formally known as Loving Support Training)
• Has one or more of the following skills and/or experiences:
o Caseload management
o Counseling skills
o Breastfeeding promotion
o Organizational skills
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
o Knowledge of the GA-WIC policies & procedures
o Supporting mother-baby dyad

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two years at an accredited college or university with at least fifteen (15) credit hours in social service-related field
• Experience with the Peer Counselor Database System (PCDB)
• Ability to coach others to set priorities
• Ability to work effectively in a high stress, changing environment

All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency.
