Full-Time Unclassified Position

SALARY: $35,618.70 Annually

LOCATION: Health Promotion, Columbus Department of Public Health, 2100 Comer Ave., Columbus, GA, 2nd Floor, Health & Human Services Center

DUTIES: This position will be housed in Columbus, GA and provide nutritional and physical activity SNAP-Ed Health Education classes virtually and/or in-person to the community to include, but not limited to:

  • Provide Direct Nutrition to both individuals and community groups.
  • Develop relationships with community sites and actively recruit eligible participants for direct nutrition education.
  • Implement the Voices for Food Program.
  • Prepare and submit reports to State SNAP-Ed program staff.
  • Conduct community surveys to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of professional health services.
  • Develop and maintain cooperation between public, civic, professional, and voluntary agencies.
  • Prepare and disseminate educational and informational materials.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain program budget.
  • Promote health discussions in community agencies and provide information to the public regarding health concerns and resources.
  • This is not a remote position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in nutrition education is preferred. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills, such as oral presentations, written reports, articles, and data entry. Must be able to establish effective working relationships with internal and external partners, coalitions, and stakeholders. Knowledgeable in Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.

All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to: staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
