LOCATION: Health Promotion, Columbus Department of Public Health, 2100 Comer Ave., Columbus, GA, 2nd Floor, Health & Human Services Center
DUTIES: Under supervision, this position will assist with the development and implementation of health promotion programs within the 16 counties of the West Central Health District. Duties include, but not limited to: developing partnerships with faith-based communities, schools, work sites and the community at large and assist these groups with developing health promotion programs; prepare and disseminate educational and informational materials; promote health discussions within schools, industry, and community agencies; teach groups and/or individuals on health education/promotion topics; and provide information to the public regarding health concerns and resources. Will also serve as back-up to the SNAP-Ed Health Educator as needed. *This is not a remote position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Health Educator 1 – (Hire-in salary – $35,618.70)
Bachelor’s degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university.
Health Educator 2 – (Hire-in salary – $38,452.58)
Bachelor’s degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience in public health education or one (1) year of experience at the lower-level Health Educator 1 (HCP030) or position equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must have effective verbal and written communication skills, such as oral presentations, written reports, articles, and data entry. Must be able to establish effective working relationships with internal and external partners, coalitions, and stakeholders. Knowledgeable in Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to: staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
