Have questions? Here are the basics: PrEP 101
There are two medications approved for use as PrEP: Truvada® and Descovy®.
- Truvada® is for all people at risk through sex or injection drug use.
- Descovy® is for people who are at risk of getting HIV from vaginal sex, except for those assigned female at birth.
PrEP is safe but some people experience side effects like diarrhea, nausea, headache,
fatigue, and stomach pain. These side effects usually go away over time.
Tell your health care provider about any side effects that are severe or do not go away.
PrEP is covered by many insurances, and available at low cost if you are uninsured. All 16 county health departments have PrEP available. Call for more information about how to get started on PrEP. Your call is confidential.
