SALARY: $74,758.74 Annually

LOCATION: Environmental Health, Columbus Department of Public Health, 2100 Comer Avenue, 2nd floor HHS Center, Columbus, GA 31904

DUTIES: Under limited to broad supervision, this position will be based in Columbus, GA. Will manage the Environmental Health program of a county health department. Supervises a team of Environmental Health professionals. Serves as a technical resource to the staff and community. Interprets complex regulatory issues, technical issues, and analytical data to document compliance with State, Federal, and local environmental health laws and regulations. May perform inspections, interviews, and technical reviews. Recommends enforcement actions as needed. Serves as a compliance officer and liaison between Public Health agencies and other local, county and state agencies. *Travel is required for this position. **Supervisory experience preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (OR 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND Two years of experience as a PH Environmental Health Specialist 4 (RCP123) or position equivalent OR One year of experience as a PH Environmental Health Specialist 5 (RCP124) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Supervisory experience preferred. Completion of a Master’s degree in Environmental Health Science OR current registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Registered Sanitarian by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), or the recognized credentialing board of another state or country having equivalent standards as NEHA, OR possession of supervisory competencies as evidenced by a certificate of supervisory practice (from the GA certified public manager program), completion of leadership DHR, or equivalent college coursework in management.

All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to: staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
